We cannot tiptoe around the adverse historical realities of social conformity. Solomon Asch was driven to study social coercion because he watched an entire population in WWII Germany yield to total social conformity and saw a collective collapse of reason that fueled widespread anti-Semitism and enabled the Holocaust.
